Be a Light for Others: PTFI Begins 2024 Christmas Celebrations with Community Outreach in Waa Banti

27 November 2024

As the Christmas season begins, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has launched its 2024 holiday celebrations with an act of kindness in the highland region. On Saturday, November 16, the company’s Christmas committee organized a charitable outreach event in Waa Banti Village, located near its operations. This initiative, themed “Be the Light”, aimed to foster goodwill and strengthen the bond between the company and the surrounding communities.

The event began with a heartfelt thanksgiving service at Kingmi Church in Banti, attended by local residents and members of the Christmas committee. The atmosphere was both reverent and warm, setting a meaningful tone for the season’s celebrations.

Following the church service, the festivities continued with activities for children held in an open field adjacent to Waa Banti Hospital. These lively events included storytelling, singing and dancing, and coloring activities, bringing joy and enthusiasm to the young participants.

As a tangible expression of the Christmas spirit, the committee distributed food supplies, Christmas hampers, decorations, hymnals, books for Sunday school teachers in local languages, and clothings. These gifts were shared with the community through the church and five congregations in nearby villages: Banti 1, Banti 2, Kimbeli, and Opitawak.

The day concluded with the committee expressing their gratitude and bidding farewell to the local residents. A group photo captured the cherished memories of this meaningful gathering before the team returned to Tembagapura.

This act of service to neighboring villages reflects PTFI’s commitment to building a spirit of gratitude and family among its employees and the communities they serve. The company hopes that all employees in the highlands will continue to support and uplift one another, embodying the true essence of the Christmas season. (Cherry Wospakrik)
