Coffee Break at the Hub in Phoenix Office
18 February 2022
Employees at the company’s Phoenix Collaboration Hub had a chance to sample Papua coffee during a recent soft launch of Papua Coffee Corner, an initiative developed by several departments at PT Freeport Indonesia to promote local coffee businesses from Timika, Papua, to a larger potential market.
In 2021, the project was piloted in Timika, a town near the PTFI site. Today, the Nemangkawi Mining Institute and PTFI’s Community Affairs, Human Resources and Corporate Communications departments are partnering with seven local coffee businesses to promote their products to employees and communities around the company.
The effort aims to support the development of a sustainable coffee industry in Papua through business empowerment, related education and training. The coffee beans are sourced from local farmers surrounding the PTFI site. Most of these plantations are in and around Papua’s central mountain range, giving them the perfect climate and soil to cultivate high-quality coffee.
Pending export clearance and other compliance, the team expects to launch the Papua Coffee Corner later this year. For now, Papua coffee will be available for self-service at the Hub while supplies last.
