Commission IX DPR RI during a recess working visit to Mimika Regency also visited the Mitra Masyarakat Hospital (RSMM), one of PT Freeport Indonesia's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs in the health sector in Timika, on Friday (04/14/2023).

Leader of this visit Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena,  express his appreciation for PT Freeport Indonesia, who has consistently carried out its social responsibility in the health sector. "An appreciation goes to Freeport Indonesia who for decades since 1999 has continued to provide health services to the people of Timika, and free health services for the 7 tribes who live around the company's area. For decades I have seen the journey of this hospital supported by Freeport and it is a good example for other companies," said Melkiades during his visit yesterday to RSMM.

In 2005 Melkiades came to Timika when he was still a staff member for the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. His visit to Timika at that time was to review five matters related to PT Freeport Indonesia including CSR, one of which was RSMM, “ I come here again today and the hospital is still providing stable services for the community” said he.

Melkiades also praised the good collaboration between Freeport and YPMAK through RSMM and RSUD and supported by the Mimika Regional Government which pays fees so that it can be served through collaboration with BPJS Health.

"Currently RSMM who has been accredited as a Type C hospital since 2008 have the capacity to serves with 160 patient beds, 370 medical workers consisting of 26 general practitioners and specialists, 185 nurses and midwives, and 159 health workers. medical and other non-medical," explained RSMM Director, Dr. Johny Ribo Tandisau. This hospital whose operational currently managed by the Timika Charitas Foundation under the supervision of the Timika Diocese began operating in 1999 as a collaboration between the Mimika District Government, the Irian Jaya Community Development Institute (currently YPMAK), Mimika diocese, and fully supported by PTFI. At that time, the initiative to build a hospital was implemented because there were no hospitals in Mimika Regency.
