Freeport Indonesia Siapkan Soft Skill Generasi Muda Papua untuk Menghadapi Dunia Kerja
17 October 2024
Bogor, September 17, 2024 – Director & Executive Vice President of Sustainable Development at PT Freeport Indonesia, Claus Wamafma, announced that the company is once again hosting the Papuan Sustainable Human Capital Development (PSHCD) soft skills training program. This program is part of the company's commitment to developing skilled and competitive Papuan youth, preparing them for the workforce.
"This year, the training is being conducted in three waves, with a total of 114 selected Papuan participants. The goal of this program is to enhance various soft skills that align with PT Freeport Indonesia's core values, which are encapsulated in the acronym SINCERE: Safety, Integrity, Commitment, Respect, and Excellence, in preparation for entering the workforce," Claus said during his address to the participants at the closing ceremony of the PSHCD event in Bogor on Tuesday (October 15).
He emphasized the importance of soft skills development for Papuan youth to ensure they are ready for the workforce, building individuals who are competitive, disciplined, and independent. "Discipline is the key to success, not only in business but also in personal life. When entering the workforce, discipline becomes essential and must be instilled from now on," he stated.
Claus explained that this soft skills and discipline training builds on the hard skills training that was previously conducted at the Nemangkawi Mining Institute in Timika. During that training, participants were taught skills in mechanics, electrical work, operations, welding, and more.
"With this comprehensive package of both hard and soft skills training, participants will gain the knowledge, skills, and work attitudes required in the industry and business sectors. These outstanding young Papuans are also expected to make an impact on their families, work teams, and the wider community in Papua," he said.
This training program, which has been held regularly since 2017, is organized by the Papuan Affairs Department in collaboration with the Nemangkawi Mining Institute. Each training phase lasts two weeks in Bogor, covering topics such as Discipline, Character Building, Team Building, Leadership, Nationalism, Time Management, Entrepreneurship, Communication, and more.
Participants also receive training in national defense skills, as well as briefings from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT).
One of the participants, Alfred Edison, who was chosen as the Best Participant of the PSHCD program, expressed his excitement about the training. "During my time here, I gained a lot, especially in terms of discipline, from time management to character building, and how to embody the core values of SINCERE. I hope the discipline we learned here can serve as an example to others and be a valuable asset for me to become a better employee in the future," Alfred said.
"With the completion of this training program, Freeport Indonesia hopes that Papuan youth will be able to change their mindset, behavior, and actions in their daily lives to become more disciplined, achieve success, and contribute to the progress of the nation and the Republic of Indonesia," Claus concluded.
