Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI), Puan Maharani along with the the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif visited PT Freeport Indonesia working areas, on December 9-10.

Puan and Arifin toured the site and visited several operations areas, including the open pit mine, the underground remote equipment control room, the Grasberg Block Cave’s unloading station.

During the visit, Puan appreciated PTFI’s performance as well as its commitment in building Papuan human resources became qualified workers.

Puan assessed that PTFI have the best mining technology and she also hope that PTFI can increasing the number of native Papuan workers, which currently has nearly reached 40 percent.

“In general, PTFI’s performance has had positive impact to Papuan as well as Indonesia. We hope that the large mineral resources managed by PTFI can provide additional benefits for Indonesia,” Puan said.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif also expressed his appreciation on the PTFI’s performance that has entered the underground mining phase.

“Now PTFI has entered the underground mining phase, deep down to DMLZ and all underground mine. With the 240,000 tons maximum of production capacity, now, PTFI has reached 213,000 tons per day. PTFI is deserves thumbs up for its speedly performance,”

PTFI President Director, Tony Wenas stated that throughout 57 years of working on the land of Papua, during that time, PTFI has been part of Papua as well as in the future, the company will continue to grow and develop together with the Papuan community.

"Our commitment to the local community will continue with various massive corporate social responsibility initiatives,"
