IPN Opens Internship Training Program Class of 2024

The Nemangkawi Mining Institute (IPN) owned by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) opened the Class of 2024 Apprentice training program at the Kuala Kencana Multipurpose Building, Timika, Central Papua, Friday (3/5). The opening activity was done to start the internship training program activity which will last about one year. This program is implemented as part of the commitment of social investment companies in the field of Human Resource Development (HRD) through IPN, to improve the knowledge and skills of indigenous Papuan human resources through an internship program to create a reliable workforce in various technical fields needed in the mining industry, such as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, welding, miners, electricity, etc.
IPN General Superintendent, Susan Kambuaya, explained, "The 2024 participants began with an admission process carried out at the end of August for 2 weeks online, followed by an administrative verification process, psychological test, medical test. The total number of applicants was 4,938 people and those who passed the selection were 130 people, but then there were 3 who withdrew, so now 127 participants. 75% of participants were sons and daughters from the Amungme - Kamoro tribe, and 20% were women. The focus of training is 6 vocational, namely; Department of heavy equipment mechanics 22 people, department of factory machinery mechanics 24 people, department of electrical 10 people, department of heavy equipment operator 30 people, miner 19 people and welding (welder) 22 people." Explained Susan.
"The training will be carried out in two sessions, namely off-job training and field training. In implementing the training program, IPN is supported by Community Affairs, LOD, PAD, and related departments within the company and contractors." She added.
Susan explained further, "The objective of this activity is to inform and introduce the 2024 batch internship training program to the company's internal and external parties, including prospective partners. Another goal is to recruit and train indigenous Papuans, especially from Amungme and Kamoro to become skilled and educated workers, who are able to compete in the world of work, and increase collaboration and cooperation with partners, both internally and externally, and create agents of change) to be an attraction, example and example for the young generation of Papua to become competent workers in their fields." She explained.
On behalf of PTFI management, Senior Vice President Community Development, Nathan Kum congratulated the interns who had passed the selection and asked the interns to make the most of this opportunity. "Little brothers and sisters, all those present in this place are selected people, make the most of this opportunity. No one stops halfway. You must be able to prove that you can and are all able to complete this internship."
On the same occasion, the Head of the Mimika Regency Manpower Office, Paulus Yanengga, SH, M.Si thanked PT Freeport Indonesia for opening internship opportunities for Papuan sons and daughters. "This is a great thing, the company opened an internship training program at IPN, this will be the answer to questions that are often asked to me as the head of the manpower office, PTFI has been operating in Papua for more than 50 years, what has been done for Papuan children, especially from the Amungme and Kamoro tribes, and I am confused about what to answer. But today I have got the answer, PTFI opens opportunities for Papuan sons and daughters to intern, practice working in the mining world at PTFI. These Papuan sons and daughters will be trained and equipped with work skills according to the majors taken." Paul Yanengga said.
The participants of the internship training program class of 2024, have different stories, experiences and processes from each other, but in general have the same hope, namely wanting to grow and develop to become part of the mining world at PTFI.
Participant from Banti, Apinus Janampa - Amungme Tribe, "For me Amungme children from Banti, this is a bridge to achieve a better future, must maintain an apprentice at IPN. My goal is to work for a better future." Apinus said.
Representing the female participants, Wulandari Renwarin said, "In Nemangkawi we are equipped with knowledge and abilities for the future to enter the company. I hope to be entrusted to work at PT Freeport Indonesia with the skills and knowledge that has been given in Nemangkawi." She said.
A Kamoro youth from the south coast of Mimika district, Nickson Otanefake, said, "At first I worked at PLN as an operator, and I got news of apprentice vacancies. Thank God I entered and was able to pass to participate in learning activities and seek experience. My goal in the future is to find experience to be able to work at PT Freeport Indonesia."
IPN was established in 2003 as a form of PT Freeport Indonesia's Social Commitment to increase the quantity and quality of Human Resources, especially the Papuan People to become a competent and work-ready workforce. (Hendrikus & Danik)
