PT Freeport Indonesia Smelter Receives ITS Visit

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) smelter in Gresik received a field study visit from 50 ITS Civil Engineering Master's students on Saturday, 28 October 2023. On this occasion, ITS students got learning experience with experts from the PTFI smelter team regarding investment strategies, management projects, risk management, procurement and contract processes, as well as financing analysis for this smelter project which is worth approximately U$ 3.5 billion.

Dr Farida Rachmawati as a Civil Engineering Lecturer at FTSPK ITS said that she was happy to have the opportunity to see the smelter construction project first hand. "Students can interact directly with experienced professionals, and learn more about the latest technology used in this project," he said.

The smelter with the largest single line design in the world is PTFI's second copper concentrate refining and processing facility which is being built in the Java Integrated Industrial Estate (JIIPE) area, Gresik, East Java with a total area of around 100 hectares, as a form of PTFI's commitment to supporting policy. government downstream. Copper concentrate processing capacity is 1.7 million tons per year.

Venta Agustri, Deputy Site Manager for the PTFI Smelter Construction Project, spoke about the PTFI principle that wherever PTFI operates, it is obliged to provide added value for the community. He hopes that this activity can provide insight and learning for students to be better prepared to compete and pursue a career in the industrial world.
