PTFI Christmas Celebration 'Rejoice Safely'
25 December 2020
This year’s Christmas celebration at PTFI was a small reminder of better things to come after the many months of facing the challenges and obstacles of an ongoing global pandemic.
The virtual celebration showed that not even a pandemic could stop the PTFI Christmas celebration from occurring. Christian denominations came together to celebrate the season as one congregation from Jakarta to Kuala Kencana and Tembagapura, all united in a single virtual celebration.
Health protocols, masks, and hand sanitizers no longer were limitations. Joy was spread through pre-recorded Christmas carols sung by various Christian communities within PTFI.
The PTFI celebration aired live on the Freeport YouTube channel and Channel 1 Freeport Broadcasting Channel. This meant that employees – whether at Jobsite or at home – could join in the simple festivities.
Strict COVID-19 protocols were enforced at all three locations, including keeping a safe distance and requiring everyone wear masks.
This has been a difficult year, especially during the holidays. Everyone certainly wants to take comfort in family and religious traditions, said Tony Wenas, PTFI President Director who attended the service from Jakarta.
"The truth is, COVID-19 is still as dangerous as ever, and the best thing we can do to protect our loved ones is continue our COVID-19 mitigation efforts in the PTFI work area and remain focused on continuing safe production,” Wenas said.
Even though it felt different from the previous Christmas celebrations, the virtual PTFI Christmas celebration was a blessing for many who could not attend in person. The celebration highlighted the Christmas spirit and the glimmer of hope the season brings.
