PTFI Community Celebrates a Joyous Christmas

Christmas returned to PT Freeport Indonesia and brought together the community in person for a warm and festive celebration.

PTFI was excited to welcome back its Christmas celebration in full swing this year after a virtual event in 2020. Thanks to PTFI’s excellent vaccination rate – at more than 87 percent as of December – hundreds of Tembagapura community members were able to gather at the Sports Hall in Tembagapura. With additional adherence to health and safety protocols such as masks and physical distancing, the PTFI community enjoyed one of the most anticipated events of the year with gratitude and excitement.

Tony Wenas, PTFI President Director, shared his appreciation of PTFI’s resilience during the pandemic and also expressed his gratitude that the virus is not spreading as rapidly, as indicated by few new cases after the company’s successful vaccination campaign.

“Despite the challenges with the spike of the Delta variant we had few months earlier, I appreciate your hard work and commitment to maintain your excellent performance, and I particularly appreciate your participation in getting vaccinated so we can manage the pandemic. Thank you to all employees in the Highlands, Lowlands, Jayapura and Jakarta for ensuring our operations can continue,” Wenas said.

PTFI Community Celebrates a Joyous Christmas

The event was broadcast on the Freeport Broadcasting and Freeport YouTube channels for those who couldn’t attend in person, including some employees in Kuala Kencana, Jayapura and Jakarta.

What made this year’s celebration more special was the return to Tembagapura Sports Hall. In previous years, the event was held in the smaller Community Hall as the Sports Hall was being used as a temporary COVID-19 Screening Center. The committee decked out the Sports Hall with lights and charming decorations, complete with a beautiful, tall Christmas tree. The community had fun taking photos after the celebration and sharing on their social media accounts.

Traditionally, a guest star joins the event each year. In 2021, Angel Pieters, a young and talented gospel singer from Jakarta, performed several beautiful Christmas songs.
