PTFI’S Commitment to Achieve Environmentally Acceptable Work Practices

18 March 2019

PT Freeport Indonesia will maintain its ISO 14001-2015 certificate after a recent environmental systems audit found no major or minor findings.

“We showed continuous improvement from the previous audit to achieve PTFI's Environmental Policy objectives,” said Zulkifli Lambali, Technical Mine Manager.

In addition to improving environmental-friendly practices, PTFI also continues to reduce plastic waste in an effort to create a plastic waste-free workplace at PTFI.

“We are working hard to install water stations throughout work areas and began reducing the company’s orders of bottled water,” said Mark Johnson, President-Freeport-McMoRan Indonesia.

Auditors spent March 11-15, 2019 at site and audited various Highlands work areas, including mine reclamation, medical waste management and hazardous waste management.

Meidiansyah Joesoef, SGS auditor said the company has carried out good waste control. “Infrastructure planning can better support waste management in the company's work areas,” he said.

In the Lowlands, the ISO 14001 audit began with evaluating compliance obligation and EMS implementation and then continued with a field audit for tailings management, and at the Dewatering Plant, Coal Plant LIP area and Landfill MP-38.

The only input was already on file and involves checking and control of work. During closing remarks, George Banini, EVP Technical Services committed to close all observations found within a three-month period.
