PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) celebrated this day by conducting a series of socialization activities related to efforts to prevent ozone layer depletion and conducting city cleanups in 3 different locations. Starting with city cleanups in the Portsite area (1/11), and Kuala Kencana (2/11) in the Lowlands. Then ended with a city cleanup at Ridge Camp in the Highlands (16/11).

This city cleanup action focused on non-organic waste. The collected waste was re-selected to separate waste in the form of AMDK (Packaged Drinking Water) and canned waste. The separation of these two types of waste was not without reason. In addition to environmental conservation efforts and creating a clean environment, plastic waste in the form of AMDK that was collected will be recycled into raw materials for making eco paving blocks. While canned waste will be processed into aluminum helmet souvenirs.

From this series of activities, a total of 188 AMDK waste bags and cans or the equivalent of almost 376 kilograms were collected. As an appreciation, each participant involved was given a refillable drinking water tumbler as an invitation to reduce the consumption of bottled drinking water (AMDK) in order to reduce plastic waste in the PTFI area.

In his opening speech, Vice President - Environmental PTFI, Gesang Setyadi, said that the purpose of implementing World Ozone Day is to increase awareness of the importance of maintaining the ozone layer and to increase employee concern regarding environmental conservation efforts, including efforts to reduce plastic waste from bottled drinks (AMDK). Gesang also invited employees to contribute by making simple efforts by helping to maintain environmental.

PTFI continues to make efforts to reduce emissions that have an impact on global warming, including the use of electric trains and loaders in underground mines, the construction of Oil and Gas Power Plants, and the use of Vertical Press Airflow (VPA) for drying concentrate. PTFI targets a reduction in Greenhouse Gas intensity of 30% by 2030 and by 2023 the reduction has reached 29%. PTFI also plans to replace the Coal-fired PLTU with a Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU) in 2028 which will also contribute to reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions.

Through the Ozone Day Commemoration activity, it is hoped that the community can actively participate in environmental conservation efforts. By reducing the use of AMDK, the volume of plastic waste can be reduced. AMDK is replaced with drinking containers that can be reused using the #SaPuAir drinking water facilities provided by the company.

A participant in the city clean-up activity at Ridge Camp, Nuryaman (Operations Maintenance Div.), said he was happy to participate in this activity. In addition to being able to create a cleaner environment, he also learned about the importance of protecting the environment, especially regarding the importance of maintaining the ozone layer for human life.

Freeport Indonesia continues its commitment to implement good mining practices environmentally. Various real steps have been taken such as forest conservation, reclamation of former mining areas, planting trees and efforts to manage waste produced in a manner that is in accordance with government regulations and international standard best practices.

By continuing these efforts, PTFI is committed to continuing to contribute to environmental conservation and ensuring a sustainable positive impact for future generations.
