Developing Future Leaders with Problem-Solving Skills

Thirty-six employees have proven they have what it takes to succeed in business management and have the scholarships to prove it.
The employees were selected for a program developed and supported by a collaboration of PT Freeport Indonesia and the Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) School of Business.
The participants enrolled in the 2019-2021 Master of Business Management Program were selected by the company’s scholarship committee based on academic records, evaluations and interviews. Fifteen of the program participants are Papuans.
“This shows that our Papuan employees are more than capable of competing and succeeding in business management at this high level,” said Achmad ‘Didi’ Ardianto, Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Security-PTFI. “Our goal is to develop future leaders for the company who will maintain our corporate values and lead teams that find new solutions and breakthroughs for safe production.”
The program allows the employees to earn their degrees while working. While that will make for a busy two years for scholar Eleanora Rumkorem, it’s a great way to use what she’s learning in her job.
“I’m looking forward to taking what I’m learning, particularly about human resource management and using that to help drive better, more effective safety management in my daily work,” said Rumkorem, Superintendent of Safety and General Administration-TRMP.
Raynold William Runggeary, Foreman, GBC Mass Excavation, wants to have a similar impact at the Grasberg Block Cave.
“I hope to use the knowledge I gain to increase productivity and efficiently at GBC,” Runggeary said.
The four-semester program, which began July 12, uses an integrated learning system in which students spend about 70 percent of their time in traditional classroom instruction and 30 percent learning online.
