Dedicated passenger lanes. Large, comfortable waiting rooms equipped with cell phone charger boxes. New restrooms for men and women. All of this and more is now waiting for passengers at the newly renovated Highland Mulki Bus Terminal.

After nearly three months of construction that saw the demolition of four Street 17 houses to make way for the expanded facility, passengers are now enjoying the comfortable quarters as they wait for a bus.

“Of the three main bus terminals we operate, Mulki Bus Terminal had the most modest infrastructure compared with Gorong-gorong and Ridge Camp, which are comfortable and well-equipped,” said Bus and Transportation Services Superintendent Fahrun Revak. “Mulki Bus Terminal’s renovation was an effort to bring all bus terminals at Jobsite closer to the same standard.”

Where previously passengers had to stand in line – often jam-packed during peak hours – in narrow, flimsily built alleys to board buses at Mulki Bus Terminal, now they wait in comfort in four spacious rooms with wooden benches and cell phone charger boxes in every corner.

New lanes allow passengers to board buses from Street 17, which is now fully dedicated to bus lanes and neatly paved with pebbles to prevent the mud puddles that inevitably follow in the wake of the daily Tembagapura rain.

Revak said the Mulki Bus Terminal renovation was part of a long-term project to improve passenger experience and comfort.  

“Ahead, we will be integrating SDO bus services with city bus services. This means Highland city buses will serve passengers from terminal to terminal,” Revak said. “When passengers get off an SDO bus at Mulki, they can connect directly to their Highland destination – in Hidden Valley, Tembagapura or Ridge Camp – without exiting the terminal building. This is certainly convenient for passengers carrying a considerable number of belongings.”

But like everything, we all need to help take care of the new terminal to ensure it remains in pristine condition for years to come, Revak said.

“Please make good use of these facilities that have been made possible for your comfort and convenience. Use them in a responsible manner while conforming to the rules, so everyone may continue to enjoy them. This is from us, for us and by us all,” Revak said.  (Sularso)
