Agats, Asmat, October 10, 2024 – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) is supporting artists at the 37th Asmat Pokman Festival (FAP) in 2024 by providing 520 packages of nutritious food. This contribution received direct recognition from Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno.
“Thank you to PT Freeport Indonesia for their support of this event,” said minister Sandiaga Uno after attending the 2024 Asmat Pokman Festival in Asmat on Tuesday, October 8.
The minister also acknowledged the efforts of all those contributing to tourism and the creative economy in South Papua, with the 2024 Asmat Pokman Festival being a key example. The festival, held at Yos Sudarso Field in Agats, Asmat Regency, South Papua Province, runs from October 7 to 11.
The festival features a range of activities including the Asmat Cultural Carnival, Asmat Body Painting, boat races on the Asuwets River, carving and weaving exhibitions, Mangrove Trips, and an Art Auctions. It is organized by the Diocese of Asmat with full support from the Asmat Regency Government.
Chris Zimmer, the Executive Vice President of Technical Services at PTFI, symbolically handed over the food aid to the artists, which was accepted by Bishop Aloysius Murwito of Agats at the Diocese Office on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
Zimmer explained that PTFI’s contribution of nutritious food was part of their broader commitment to improving the health of Papua’s communities. By providing healthy, nutritious food, PTFI believes individuals can be more productive and contribute to their families, communities, and Papua as a whole.
Bishop Aloysius Murwito expressed his gratitude for PTFI’s support, noting that the aid would be highly beneficial to Asmat artists and craftsmen. The food packages are being prepared into meals by the festival’s food section and distributed to the artists, carvers, and weavers participating in the event.
