Gresik, June 8, 2026 – A delegation of 16 participants from the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions – Working Group on Environmental Auditing (ASOSAI WGEA), accompanied by the Supreme Audit Board (BPK) of the Republic of Indonesia, visited the PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) Smelter at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to learn more about mineral resource management, the value-added mineral refining process, and environmental management aspects within the mining industry.

“I see what PTFI has accomplished as a remarkable achievement. PTFI is able to demonstrate a balance between contributing to state revenue and its commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Moeed Ali, representative of the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of Pakistan and Director General of Audit (Climate Change and Environment), during his visit to the PTFI Smelter on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The working group aims to build understanding and strengthen cooperation among its members through the exchange of knowledge and experience in environmental auditing. ASOSAI WGEA also facilitates ongoing training and capacity development to improve the quality and performance of state auditors in conducting environmental audits.

BPK representatives noted that this visit was part of a series of activities under the Kick-Off Meeting of the ASOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA) 7th Cooperative Environmental Audit, held in Surabaya from June 2–4, 2026. Participants came from various countries, including China, Papua New Guinea, Oman, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Indonesia.

Through this agenda, BPK hopes that participants will be able to enhance their knowledge, share experiences, and develop a better understanding of how public sector auditing can support accountable and sustainable resource management.

“We are greatly honored to receive the visit from ASOSAI WGEA and BPK RI. The presence of these participants represents a recognition of our implementation of good governance and our commitment to conducting integrated upstream-to-downstream sustainable mining practices,” said PTFI Vice President Director Jenpino Ngabdi

During the visit, Jenpino elaborated on PTFI's integrated mining operations from upstream to downstream, encompassing mining, processing, and smelter refining activities. The session also highlighted environmental management practices, compliance with applicable regulations, and the various sustainability efforts that form part of the company's operations.

Following the presentation session, the delegation conducted a direct inspection of the PTFI Smelter facilities to observe operational processes, technology, mineral refining, as well as the safety and environmental protection standards implemented at the smelter.
