“The investment project through the Smelter will have a significant impact on the Indonesian economy, especially for Papua.” Tony said.

As planned, PTFI will complete construction of the copper smelter with the world's largest single-line design by the end of December 2023 and start its operational activities at the end of May 2024 until it reaches full operation by the end of December 2024.

A new copper smelter in Manyar, Special Economic Zone (KEK), Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE), Gresik, East Java, is projected to process 1.7 million tons of copper concentrate per year into around 600 thousand tons of cathode copper per year.

The Manyar Smelter itself is PTFI's second copper concentrate refining and processing facility which is being built in the Gresik Java Integrated Industrial Estate (JIIPE) area, East Java with a total area of around 100 hectares. The construction of the Manyar smelter by PTFI is a form of support to the Government's downstream policy. The Manyar Smelter is the second smelter owned by PTFI after the first smelter was built by PTFI in 1996, and is managed by PT Smelting.
