Freeport Communities Celebrate Eid al-Fitr
08 June 2019
From the remote mountains of Jayawijaya Tempagapura, Papua to the desert of Phoenix, Ariz., the spirit of PT Freeport Indonesia’s Muslim community glowed around the world as they celebrated Eid al-Fitr.
Eid al-Fitr started June 5 with prayer at the Tembagapura Soccer Field and Kuala Kencana Alun-alun. Hundreds of people gathered in Tembagapura and Kuala Kencana in the Lowlands during malam takbiran, a festive night when Muslims perform the takbir. The melodious chant of Allah akbar, which means God is great, filled the air, and the drumming contest at the Daarussa’adah Mosque in Tembagapura added even more energy to the already lively celebration. In his Eid al-Fitr speech, Ahmad Didi Ardianto, PTFI Director, Executive Vice President-Human Resources and Security Risk Management, encouraged listeners to continue the camaraderie of Ramadan as employees work together to achieve great goals in safety, production, security and industrial relations.
The congenial atmosphere of community and friendship continued as families visited each other. On behalf of PTFI Management, Ardianto held a community open house at his residence, and Arif Nasuha, Vice President-Security Risk Management, hosted an event for the Lowlands.
PTFI employees in Jakarta joined in a festive Halal Bihalal gathering on June 20 with PTFI President Director Tony Wenas and the local management. PTFI employees in Phoenix also gathered together celebrating Eid al-Fitr . Although far away from their homeland, they enjoyed spending time together as part of the PT Freeport Indonesia family.
