2026 PTFI Easter Celebration Strengthens Employee and Community Bonding

08 April 2026 Papua

The 2026 Easter celebration in Jobsite of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) was held again as part of the company celebrating togetherness and unity. Involving employees and the community, this celebration served as an internal momentum for the company to strengthen togetherness and harmony among employees and the community in the Tembagapura area and Kuala Kencana area.

The lively 2026 Easter Celebration was held from March 22 to April 11, 2026, featuring various spiritual activities. The series began with the "Ecumenical Women's Fellowship Easter" event at Ridge Camp and Tembagapura, followed by Ecumenical Worship, Citywide Prayer, Family Seminar, Blood Donation Drive, Community Service, Torch parade and Easter Dawn Service, as well as the Easter Worship & Celebration both in Highlands and Lowlands. Some activities continued after Easter, such as the Ecumenical Women's Fellowship Easter Service and Diakonia Service.

Meanwhile, the Ecumenical Easter Praise Night in the Lowlands was also held on April 11, 2026 at the Multipurpose Building, Kuala Kencana, and was attended by hundreds of employees and church communities. The event was marked by a solemn and reverent atmosphere through praise offerings from various vocal groups (choirs) as well as a short drama depicting the moment of Lord Jesus carrying the cross. On this occasion, Director and Executive Vice President, Claus Wamafma, invited the entire congregation to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of our colleagues who passed away as a result of shooting incidents, and to pray that the company may continue to be guided in peace, safety, and togetherness. “Easter reminds us to always be grateful for the resurrection of Christ and for the peace that we are still able to share together,” said Claus.

During the Easter Service and Celebration, PTFI management, represented by George Banini, Director & EVP of Operations, also paid tribute to two employees who passed away in two shooting incidents in February and March 2026. He said “It is disheartening that their unfortunate deaths are unnecessary, completely unnecessary. And as we celebrate, they used to be part of our family, the PTFI Family. We need to actually continue to reflect and remind ourselves about their activities and services to the company, emphasizing that we are one family within the PTFI family.”

Riven Togelang, Chairman of the Highlands Easter Committee, stated, "This year's entire Easter series of activities is a concrete manifestation of our togetherness, service, and faith. This Easter 2026 celebration affirms the Christian community's commitment to living in love, unity, and hope. It demonstrates the manifestation of faith and spiritual life within PTFI, both as employees and as a community."

One of the unique celebrations held in the Highlands this year was the torch parade during the Easter Dawn Service in the Highlands. Whereas in previous years, this parade circled the city of Tembagapura, this year it was focused solely at the Tembagapura Football Field.

"Although this year's Easter torch parade is unlike previous years, this does not diminish the joy of Easter and worship. My colleagues and I were very happy to circle the field carrying torches while singing praise and worship songs. Everyone was happy," said employee Rizky Sijabat.

Even amidst challenging circumstances, the community and employees are grateful to solemnly and joyfully commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This serves as an inspiration for Freeporters in Jobsite to carry out their work safely and securely.
