Freeport Encourages Public to Support Indonesian Athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics

Jakarta, July 27, 2024 - The 33rd Olympic Games have officially commenced, and PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) is encouraging the public to rally behind Indonesian athletes aiming for top performances.
"Freeport Indonesia supports the Indonesian Team competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics. We hope this will inspire the athletes to give their best for the country and motivate the younger generation," said PTFI Vice President Director Jenpino Ngabdi at the Olympic opening ceremony in Paris, France, on Friday, July 26.
Reports indicate that the Paris 2024 opening ceremony was witnessed by 316,000 spectators in person, with an estimated 1.5 million viewers watching on television. The opening ceremony featured 160 boats traversing the Seine River, 94 of which carried the athletes.
Fourteen Indonesian athletes and officials greeted the audience, carrying the spirit of Indonesian painter Raden Saleh during the ceremony. Judo athlete Maryam March Maharani had the honor of carrying the Red and White flag during the parade of nations.
Anindya Novyan Bakrie, Chef de Mission for the Indonesian contingent, expressed hope for the athletes' success. "If God wills, this smooth opening ceremony will pave the way for the success of the 29 Indonesian athletes competing. We hope to see the Red and White flag flying and hear 'Indonesia Raya' playing," he said.
The Paris 2024 Olympics features 32 sports, with participation from 182 countries. Indonesia's contingent comprises 29 athletes, including 16 men and 13 women, supported by 20 coaches, 9 officials, and 28 headquarters staff, making a total of 86 team members.
"Thank you also to Freeport Indonesia for the continued support as our CdM during this Olympics," Anindya added.
The Indonesian contingent sent to the 33rd Olympics will compete in 12 sports: Badminton, Weightlifting, Climbing, Archery, Shooting, Athletics, Swimming, Surfing, Gymnastics, Cycling, Rowing, and Judo.
