Freeport Indonesia Promotes Improved Welfare for OAP Workers & Families

13 November 2025 Papua

Timika, November 11, 2025 — PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) is encouraging PTFI employees and Native Papuan (OAP) contractors to improve their standard of living and welfare, including through the Marital Program or Mass Civil Marriage Registration.

"The company recognizes the importance of marriage legality for our employees, not only from an administrative perspective but also to ensure the protection and welfare of their families. Through the Mimika Civil Registry Office (Dukcapil), we facilitate employees and contractors in obtaining official marriage certificates from the government," said Nathan Kum, Senior Vice President (SVP) of Community Development at PTFI in Timika on Tuesday.

Nathan explained that the Mass Civil Marriage Registration for PTFI employees and OAP contractors with their spouses aims to ensure their marriages receive official validation and marriage documents from the state. With valid state documents, every OAP employee and contractor can process other important documents such as Family Cards, Children's Birth Certificates, National Identity Cards, Social Security Administrator (BPJS) for Employment and BPJS for Health.

"This will make it easier for them to register their family members to receive benefits such as education and health assistance, up to retirement. By obtaining these benefits, we hope to improve their standard of living and welfare," he said.

PTFI and the Mimika Regency Civil Registry Office held the 2025 Marital Program in Mimika on Friday, October 30, 2025. A total of 25 couples participated in this program accompanied by immediate family members. This collaboration between the private sector and local government is an effort to establish orderly population administration, as well as a form of special attention to employees and their families.

Secretary of Mimika Civil Registry Office, Damaris Tappi, expressed appreciation for the initiative and good cooperation with the local government. "Population documents and civil records are important for every Indonesian citizen. After receiving official marriage documents from the government, it will facilitate access to various public services such as BPJS and employment administration," said Damaris.

One of the participating couples expressed gratitude as it was very beneficial for their family. "We are very happy and thank God that we can finally get the documents. Previously we had difficulty processing these documents due to our busy schedules. Thank you to the company and Mimika Dukcapil," said Yulianus Kotouki.

The Mass Civil Marriage Registration activity for OAP employees and contractors at PTFI through the Papuan Affairs Division (PAD) has been implemented since 2009. Up to this year, 200 people have participated. PAD is one of the divisions within the PTFI organization that specifically manages Papuan workforce affairs, particularly the development of Papuan employees both at PTFI and partner/contractor companies. Several strategic programs to support the development of Papuan employees include various training programs as well as developing local communities around the company's operational areas through the Nemangkawi Mining Institute (IPN).
