PT Freeport Indonesia Provides Humanitarian Aid to Agats Fire Victims
25 September 2019
PT Freeport Indonesia provided approximately 2.5 tons of aid earlier this week to residents of Agats affected by a fire that recently tore through a large part of the community, destroying about 357 homes.
An Airfast helicopter took off from Timika’s Mozes Kilangin Airport on Tuesday, September 24 carrying the aid that included ready-to-eat food (packaged food), drinking water, tents and platoon mats, blankets, clothing, and many other essentials.
Harry Joharsyah, General Superintendent-Government Relations, gave the aid directly to Asmat Regency Government representative Herman Yelemaken, Secretary of Social Services.
"We will immediately distribute this aid from Freeport to residents affected by the fire in Agats," Herman said.
The aid was delivered to Agats by a boat owned by the Ewer Transportation Office on Wednesday.
PTFI employees and community members in the Highlands and Lowlands continue to collect more donations for Agats to help the community recover.
