27 January 2025
The warmth of togetherness during Christmas is always a special moment filled with hope and unity, lighting up the light of love within the surrounding community and workplace. This year, that joy radiated in three different locations: the Highlands (07/12), Lowlands (08/12), and Jakarta (12/12).
With the theme, “Be the Light”, the event became a moment of warmth and togetherness. A series of Christmas activities began as early as November across PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI)’s three locations.
In the Highlands, the festivities leading up to the Christmas included activities like Diakonia services in Banti, Children’s Ecumenical Christmas Worship, Thanksgiving Worship, and Women’s Ecumenical Fellowship (PWO) services. The celebration also featured a Christmas Concert, Christmas Festival, children’s Christmas movie screenings, and an inspiring Spiritual Seminar.
In the Lowlands, the celebration was enlivened by Social Service activities in Pigapu Village, Christmas Carol, and a Blood Donation Program at Portsite, Kuala Kencana, and Mile Post 38. As a moment of reflection, a Leadership Seminar was also held, attended by PTFI management and the Lowlands community.
PTFI’s Christmas celebration in Jakarta was vibrant, featuring various activities involving employees and their families. As part of its Christmas social initiatives, PTFI Jakarta carried out community service in Kabanjahe, North Sumatra, and held pre-Christmas competitions, such as creating and decorating cribs, employees enthustiastically participated in. Preparation for Christmas began in late October, especially for PTFI employee’s children, who engaged in various training sessions, including ensemble music, angklung, dancing, and choir practices.
During the main celebration, the atmosphere was filled with excitement as employees and their children performed in choirs, dances, angklung presentations, and youth ensemble music performances. The event was further enlivened by guest appearances from artists like Gamaliel & Audrey, Olivia Pardede, and Mirabeth Sonia, adding warmth and joy to the Christmas spirit.
With the theme “Be the Light”, the Christmas Celebration reminded the PTFI employees of their calling to be the light, not only illuminating their own path but also bringing hope and peace to those around them. PTFI President Director, Tony Wenas, in his Christmas message, invited all employees to use this moment for reflection, strengthening their faith, sharing love, and happiness with others. Tony also expressed his pride for PTFI employees for their outstanding contributions to the company’s achievements throughout the year.
“The longing to visit tembagapura, meet fellow employees, see Grasberg, and the world’s largest underground mine, never fades,” he shared, highlighting his pride in the solid teamwork across all PTFI operations, including Tembagapura, Kuala Kencana, Jakarta, and Gresik.
In line with the theme “Be the Light”, Tony Wenas highlighted that Freeport Indonesia a has become a light for the people of Papua, Mimika, and Indonesia, thanks to the contributions of every employee who works sincerely, lovingly, and with commitment. He appreciated the hard work of the teams that overcame challenges with solid collaborations and upholding SINCERE, the company’s core value.
The 2024 Christmas celebration not only strengthened the bonds but also served as a reflection of dedication and hardwork of all PTFI employees. The unity reminds us all of the importance of collaboration in facing challenges and achieving extraordinary milestones. With the spirit demonstrated throughout the year, PTFI remains committed to making a positive impact on its employees, communities, and the nation.
May the joy and inspiration of this moment become a motivation to take a step further towards a future full of hope.
