This safety stand down meeting is a proactive step toward reinforcing company’s commitment to safety and ensuring that recent incidents become powerful learning opportunities, a safety stand-down meeting was held on October 30 at all work areas in PT Freeport Indonesia Site in Central Papua.
"Today, we are standing down in solidarity with employees and contractors across Freeport to prioritize our commitment to safe production – for ourselves and our fellow miners.”
The safety stand-down event focused on the following key objectives:
- Engaging in Meaningful Safety Conversations: Encouraging employees to discuss current safety practices openly, fostering a culture of transparency around safety challenges and opportunities for improvement.
- Reinforcing Hazard Recognition and Risk Prevention: The meeting emphasized the importance of identifying hazards, preventing fatalities, and managing high-risk situations effectively.
- Committing to Collective Responsibility: Employees were reminded that safety is a shared responsibility.
In this collaborative discussion, PTFI management engaged directly with employees, posing important questions such as, “What has gone wrong?” and “What actions can we take to protect ourselves and each other?” These questions created valuable exchanges that addressed current safety concerns and possible solutions to prevent future incidents.
The open dialogue reminded employees that maintaining a safe work environment is a collective responsibility. By fostering such interactions, the Company aims to assure that every team member feels empowered to contribute to workplace safety.
