PTFI Hosts Cultural Festival to Celebrate Indonesian Independence Day

Tembagapura, August 11, 2024 – To commemorate the 79th Independence Day of Indonesia, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) organized a special cultural event titled “Nusantara Tembagapura” on Saturday, August 11, 2024. Held at the Tembagapura Sport Hall, this event showcased the rich cultural heritage of Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke themed “New Nusantara, Advancing Indonesia”. The event ran from 9:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. at the Sport Hall, with PTFI employees, local communities, and surrounding residence in attendance.  

In this occasion, Clementino Lamury, Director and Executive Vice President of Human Resources at PTFI, accompanied by Rd. Gautama M. Imam Santosa, PTFI Highland Chair of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day Commitee and representative of Geo-Engineering & Environmental, officially opened the event. They call for the importance of unity and togetherness in commemorating Indonesia’s independence.  

“We are celebrating Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day with an event that represents the diversity and unity of the Indonesian people. This celebration reinforces the idea that it is our diverse ethnicities and cultures that unite us as a nation, from Sabang to Merauke,” Clementino remarked. 

Clementino also highlighted that PTFI is Indonesia in miniature. “Diversity is what makes PTFI a great mining company. Supported by a spirit of unity among all employees, communities, and surrounding residents, our PTFI family is not only diverse across Indonesia but also includes colleagues from various parts of the world,” he added.

“Nusantara Tembagapura” featured a wide array of Indonesian cultures through various competitions and artistic performances. Fourteen booths were set up by different PTFI divisions and employee communities, including:

  • Manpower Management & Paguyuban Keluarga Kalimantan 
  • Mining Safety Division & Masyarakat Ngayogjokarto (PNG) 
  • Papuan Affairs Department and Industrial Relations & Kerukunan Keluarga Besar Sulawesi Utara (KKBSU) 
  • Central Services & Kerukunan Keluarga Sulawesi Selatan (KKSS) 
  • Facilities and Town Management dan MIS & Kerukunan Keluarga Toraja Tembagapura (KKTT) 
  • Grasberg Earthworks & Bali 
  • Learning and Organizational Development & Kerukunan Masyarakat Sumatera Selatan (KEMASS) 
  • General Construction and Special Project dan Kuala Pelabuhan Indonesia & Flobamora 
  • Concentrating & Ikatan Keluarga Minang (IKM) 
  • Supply Chain Management & Papua 
  • Underground Mine & Jawa Timur 
  • Security Risk Management & Perkumpulan Keluarga Batak Tembagapura (PKBT) 
  • Geoengineering and Environment & Mitra Riung Gunung (MRG) 
  • Operation Maintenance & Kerukunan Keluarga Maluku (KKM) 

Each booth was decorated to reflect the distinct cultural traits of its respective region, showcasing the richness of Indonesian traditions and arts. Participants also competed in regional culinary competitions and held a traditional clothing fashion show, fostering a lively atmosphere filled with camaraderie and the spirit of gotong royong (cooperation). 

The festivities were further enlivened by special performances from PTFI Management representatives, including the vocal group Little Star, who performed a medley of regional songs. The Vincent & Friends Band and the Tembagapura Music Community (Komustra) also took the stage, adding to the vibrant celebration. The event concluded with a communal Yosim Pancar (Yospan) dance, accompanied by traditional Indonesian songs. 

The winners of the various competitions held as part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations will be announced on August 18, 2024. As the highlight of the Independence Day Festivities in Tembagapura, “Nusantara Tembagapura” was a special moment to strengthen the sense of unity and pride in Indonesia’s cultural wealth, while embracing the spirit of togetherness the nation celebrates its independence.
