Closing National OHS Month with “Rise Together, Work Safely, Work Healthy”
“Rise Together, Work Safely, Work Healthy” serves as the theme and tagline of the 2026 National Occupational Health and Safety Month (BK3N) at PT Freeport Indonesia. The message was delivered in unison with strong enthusiasm, serving as a reminder of our shared commitment to workplace safety and health.
Following the official opening of BK3N pre-event through management inspections across various operational areas in December 2025, the company formally concluded the 2026 BK3N series at two operational sites in Papua: Tembagapura and Kuala Kencana. The closing events were opened for the local community to allow the safety message to reach a broader audience.
Chairman of the 2026 BK3N Committee at PTFI, Maychel Gino Simanjuntak, emphasized that safety goes beyond the workplace. “Safety is not only a responsibility at work, but also at home. The safe behaviors we practice on the job should become habits in our daily lives, because our families and surrounding communities deserve the same level of awareness and care,” he stated.
Tembagapura
In the highlands of Tembagapura, the closing event on Sunday, February 8, 2026 began with a Fun Run and Zumba session as part of the healthy lifestyle campaign.
PTFI Executive Vice President of Operations, George Banini, shared that the activities were designed to engage the broader community. “We want to share the importance of safety. Training such as CPR or the use of fire extinguishers (APAR) may seem unnecessary--and of course, we hope we never have to use them--but one day, that knowledge could save a life,” he explained.
The event featured not only entertainment and a community bazaar, but also a range of safety campaigns, including the Pinch Point Awareness Campaign, APAR Campaign and Simulation, Health Campaign, CPR Campaign and Simulation, and the Self-Rescuer Long Duration (SRLD) Campaign and Simulation. Each initiative was delivered in an interactive way to promote awareness and strengthen understanding of occupational safety and health in an enjoyable way.
Chairman of BK3N 2026 for the Highlands, Agus Ariawan, expressed hope that the spirit of togetherness would continue beyond the event. “We hope this momentum strengthens our sense of being one big PTFI family, so that everyone who leaves for work returns home safely,” he said.
Kuala Kencana
In the morning, Saturday, February 14, the entire Lowland Community gathered to celebrate the Street X Forest Run, part of the Safety Street Festival, which served as the closing event of the BK3N 2026 series that has been running since December 8, 2025.
The Safety Street Festival was enlivened with various activities, including performances by PTFI employees, a food bazaar, airsoft gun arena, tamia, and a presentation of the Refuge Chamber unit, which visitors could view directly. Through this presentation, participants gained additional knowledge about the function and operation of the unit.
One of the highlights of the event was the Safety Innovation Expo, where PTFI vendors showcased their company profiles through interactive booths that participants could visit and explore.
As the peak of the event—and the official closing of BK3N 2026—the atmosphere grew even more festive with the announcement of the Safety Olympiad PTFI 2026 winners, after each department had participated and competed throughout the entire series of activities.
“The spirit of Safety Starts with Me – Rise Together, Work Safely, Work Healthily must continue to be upheld even after the BK3N 2026 series has ended. Safety values must be carried forward and embedded as a long-term culture,” said Gino.
