BI Deputy Governor Impressed When Visiting PTFI
Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Aida Suwandi Budiman, conducted a working visit to Mimika Regency, Central Papua. In a series of activities, the Deputy Governor of BI also visited the operational area of PT Freeport Indonesia on May 7-9.
The aim of this visit is related to the efforts of the Republic of Indonesia government to move towards “Indonesia Maju” vision in 2045. Through this working visit to PTFI, BI can provide recommendations to the government regarding programs and efforts to achieve the country's economic growth targets. The goal is for the country to have an inclusive, sustainable economy that can provide benefits to more people.
There were two approaches seen from the visit to PTFI, they saw PTFI as a downstream mining company with high capital intensity. Also the absorption of labor carried out by the mining industry.
Experiencing the visit to PTFI’s operational area, the Deputy Governor of BI admitted that she was very impressed with how PTFI could operate by implementing advanced and innovative technology. This is done while still paying attention to environmental conditions and safety aspects for workers.
She stated that PTFI has good corporate culture. This can be seen from the planning, supervision and evaluation systems, showing that PTFI has good and professional corporate governance. "In addition to following the applicable SOPs, PTFI even learns to be innovative. This is an example of a good organization because it makes the learning curve continue to rise," she added.
Seeing PTFI's large contribution to the economy in Papua and Indonesia, the Deputy Governor of BI hopes that PTFI will continue to advance and prosper. However, this must be carried out while still paying attention to the environment, workforce and the surrounding community. In 2024, PTFI deposited around Rp7.73 trillion of the central and regional government's share of the company's 2024 net profit. The funds of around Rp7.73 trillion were divided between the central government of Rp3.1 trillion and the regional government of Rp4.63 trillion. (Makmesser)
