PT Freeport Indonesia celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia with various activities with the communities surrounding its operational area. One such activity was a collaborative effort to clean up the environment with residents of Ayuka Village, East Mimika District, and Tipuka Village, East Mimika District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua.
"Every year, we hold celebrations and share togetherness with the residents. We don't just hold activities, but we also aim to provide benefits and a positive impact for the residents. This year, we focused on Ayuka and Tipuka, while last year, a similar activity took place in Nayaro Village and in 2023, in Nawaripi Village," said Arnold Sanadi, Coordinator of the 80th Indonesian Independence Day Committee in the Lowlands of PT Freeport Indonesia's Operational Area, after the cleanup on Friday, August 1, 2025.
He said the cleanup was attended by 165 people, consisting of adult men and young village members, supported by Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) personnel assigned to the two districts. The women also helped cook and prepare food for the cleanup participants.
PTFI employees and residents also installed red and white flags and pennants along village roads and homes, and painted the village gate, which serves as a gateway and sign of their identity. "Hopefully, this activity can strengthen togetherness a nd synergy to create clean and healthy Ayuka and Tipuka villages," said Arnold.
He explained that the village cleanup was the beginning of various activities with the Ayuka and Tipuka residents. Furthermore, on August 6-7, 2025, there will be sports and arts competitions, community service, education on the importance of healthy living for children, and soccer training by Papua Football Academy coaches on August 12-13, 2025.
"The culmination will be entertainment for residents centered at the Tipuka Village Hall Field," he said.

Throughout August, PTFI held various activities that fostered the spirit of nationalism and mutual cooperation at its five work locations, from upstream in Papua—including Tembagapura, Kuala Kencana, and Nabire—to downstream in Gresik, East Java, and Jakarta.
In Tembagapura, various competitions and cultural performances were held with the residents of Banti Village. In Nabire, free cataract surgeries were held, combined with education and eye exams for 1,000 schoolchildren, and 500 free pairs of glasses were distributed.
