Crusher 603 Poised to Increase Safe and Sustainable Production

After careful planning and decisions, mine operation at the Grasberg Block Cave (GBC) at PT Freeport Indonesia has reached yet another significant milestone. The completion of the crusher, within a remarkable 14-month period, marks a major step forward for the underground mine.
The construction of Crusher 603, as it is commonly known, is an impressive feat. Unlike the previous models, Crusher 603 has been specifically designed to handle the challenges posed by the wet muck in the GBC.
Akhmad Ulya Hidayat, VP Central Services PTFI stated that the construction process was executed with utmost regard for safety. With only one restricted duty incident and one first aid incident reported, the project was successfully completed without any major accident injuries. This outstanding safety track record is a testament to the meticulous planning and strict adherence to safety protocols throughout the construction process.
Moreover, the construction of Crusher 603 was primarily carried out by national employees with 410,000 man-hours dedicated to the project. George Banini Executive Vice President of Operations complimented the teams who were able to finish this project three months ahead of time. The successful completion of this project highlights the capabilities and expertise and the commitment of the national workforce in the demanding field of underground mining.
“The construction of the 603 Crusher used 70% more steel and 20% more concrete than the previous two crushers, which made the construction more complicated, said George Banini. Banini praise everyone involves in this project from the design it on the first stage to the completion of the project.

Carl Tauran, the PT Freeport Indonesia Technical Mine Manager, expressed his utmost appreciation to the Central Services team and every team involves for their exceptional work on this project. He congratulated them on completing the crusher safely and recognized their dedication and hard work. Carl Tauran also shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming completion of the 3rd Semi Autogenous Grinding (SAG 3), which is scheduled to be accomplished by the end of the year. It is evident that the PT Freeport Indonesia team is on track to achieve their goals and make significant contributions to the mining industry.
Once operational, it is anticipated that Crusher 603 will significantly increase the production of the GBC mine.
