PTFI Family Unites in a Warm Eid al-Fitr Celebration
Eid al-Fitr is always a special moment eagerly awaited by Muslims every year. The celebration marks a time to reconnect, strengthen family ties, and exchange forgiveness with relatives and loved ones. This spirit was also warmly felt in the small mining towns at the foothills of Puncak Jayawijaya—Tembagapura and Kuala Kencana.
The PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) community welcomed Eid al-Fitr solemnly through a series of takbiran night activities and the joint performance of the Eid al-Fitr prayer. This year saw a slight difference compared to previous years. The takbiran night and Eid prayer in Tembagapura were centralized at Daarussa’adah Mosque, Tembagapura, which was filled with worshippers from various backgrounds, including employees and their families.
The atmosphere of takbiran night at Daarussa’adah Mosque became even more festive with a traditional bedug (drum) beating competition and the resonant chanting of takbir. These activities not only added to the celebration but also became a means of togetherness and an expression of gratitude in welcoming the day of victory after a month of fasting. Meanwhile, in Kuala Kencana, the takbir parade was enlivened by employees and their families joyfully circling the town together.
Following the Eid prayer, the spirit of fellowship continued. PTFI employees, along with contractors and privatization partners, took part in halal bihalal by visiting the homes of PTFI management and colleagues across Tembagapura, Kuala Kencana, and Timika. Throughout the day, the atmosphere was filled with warmth as employees from diverse backgrounds—united as one large family in this mining community—gathered and connected.
The mutual respect continuously fostered throughout the year among PT Freeport Indonesia, the Government of Indonesia, and the local community, as well as among employees and their families, has created a strong foundation for moving forward together.
PTFI management, represented by Eko Purnomo, VP, Ore Flow and Fixed Plant, in his remarks during the Eid prayer in Tembagapura, expressed appreciation to the entire extended family of PT Freeport Indonesia for their contributions and dedication over the years.
“Amid the various challenges we face, all employees, with support from their families, have continued to demonstrate an unyielding spirit. Therefore, as we enter the recovery phase following last year’s incident, let us all improve ourselves at work—especially in occupational safety—and seek the protection of Allah SWT in carrying out our duties,” he said.
In Tembagapura and Kuala Kencana, the warmth of Eid al-Fitr was clearly reflected as employees, colleagues, and families from different backgrounds visited one another, exchanged handshakes, offered apologies, and showed mutual respect. This togetherness is a strong reflection of the family values embedded within the PT Freeport Indonesia environment, where differences become a source of strength in harmony.
“Allow me to invite all of us to take advantage of this blessed moment to continue seeking blessings and success by adapting the values of the PTFI environment into our daily activities,” Eko added.
“Safety, Integrity, Commitment, Respect, and Excellence will guide us toward true goodness and help ensure the sustainability of the company—our home—so that it remains productive and harmonious.”
The warmth of Idul Fitri was also felt at the PT Freeport Indonesia Smelter in Gresik. The Idul Fitri prayer was held at Babussalam Mosque, PTFI, and was attended by around 250 employees and contractors from various departments who joined in celebrating the day of victory with deep devotion. After the prayer, the warm atmosphere continued through a simple gathering and halal bihalal, where they exchanged handshakes and mutual apologies, strengthening the sense of togetherness despite being far from their hometowns. This moment reflects the strong values of unity that continue to be upheld within the PTFI work environment. (Corporate Communcations)
