Joint Prayer Marks the Beginning of PT Freeport Indonesia Smelter Operation
Gresik, May 13, 2025 – In welcoming the start of its operational phase, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) held a joint prayer at the Babbusalam Mosque, PTFI Smelter, located in the Gresik Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The event served as a spiritual endeavor to ensure that the Smelter’s operations run safely and sustainably.
“We are about to enter a critical phase in the company’s history – the start of our Smelter operations, a facility we have built together with great effort and dedication. This is not just a major physical project, but also a significant responsibility to contribute to the advancement of the national industry and strengthen domestic mineral downstreaming,” said Aripin Buman, Vice President Business Process PTFI Smelting & Refining.
The solemn event was attended by PTFI Smelter management, employees, and contractors. The joint prayer was led by KH Khoirul Atho, Head of the Al-Ibrohimi Islamic Boarding School.
In his prayer, KH Khoirul Atho expressed hopes that the Smelter’s operations would proceed smoothly and safely, bringing the greatest possible benefit to the community, the nation, and the country. He also prayed for all parties involved to be given strength and a strong sense of responsibility, to carry out their work with sincere intentions and integrity. May all forms of harm be kept away, and may this site become a blessed place of good deeds.
The Head of the Babbusalam Mosque Council, Erik Hariadi Kurniawan, representing employees also conveyed his appreciation for the event. “We are proud and grateful that this mosque can be the starting point of such an important step for PTFI Smelter. May blessings always accompany every step taken by everyone at PTFI. Through this joint prayer, we also uphold the cultural values and local wisdom of Indonesian society.”
This joint prayer event marked a meaningful beginning for the operational journey of the PTFI Smelter, with hopes for a safe, smooth, and sustainable path forward. Aripin Buman added, “With the launch of this operational phase, we hope to make a significant contribution to Indonesia’s vision for mineral downstreaming. May the synergy of effort and prayer help us realize this great goal together.”
