PT Freeport Indonesia Affirms K3 Commitment Through Launch of “Zero Tolerance Rule”

Gresik, December 19, 2024 – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has reaffirmed its commitment to occupational safety by launching the “Zero Tolerance Rule”. This program is designed to strengthen safety culture and ensure that every individual understands and complies with occupational safety principles to create a safe, productive, and conducive work environment.
The launch of the “Zero Tolerance Rule” was attended by all smelter employees and those responsible for smelter contractor operations.
Executive Vice President of Corporate Planning and Business Strategy Smelter PTFI, Horst Dieter Garz, in his remarks said, “We gather to reflect on our shared commitment to creating a professional, safe, and integrity-based work environment. Safety culture is a core value in our company.”
As a form of real commitment, all Freeport employees who attended showed their support by simultaneously pinning the “Committed to Zero Tolerance Rule” pin. In addition, management leadership was demonstrated through digital signing by four senior management and 14 managers, emphasizing that the implementation of this rule starts with the company's leaders.
In the event, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Manager, Setianus, explained eight important points in the "Zero Tolerance Rule," while Human Resources and Business Services (HRBS) Manager, Sudarmono, explained the Industrial Relations Policy that supports the implementation of this rule.
To ensure the sustainability of the implementation of this rule, PT Freeport Indonesia will continue to provide understanding through intensive training and mentoring carried out by the Safety and HR teams. This approach aims to ensure that everyone can apply the rules consistently, while creating a strong work safety culture.
Eight Zero Tolerance Rules:
1. Prohibited to operating company vehicles and mobile or stationary equipment without a valid license
2. Work without following Lock Out Tag-Out Try Out (LOTOTO) procedures when working with hazardous energy is prohibited.
3. Wear fall protection while working at heights. Apply 100% Tie-off.
4. Working under suspended loads is prohibited.
5. Follow procedure and apply permit when working in confined spaces.
6. Prohibited to working and/or operating mobile equipment or light vehicles under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, and/or drugs.
7. It is not permissible to misuse, damage, or remove equipment.
8. It is forbidden to smoke outside of designated areas.
With these steps, PT Freeport Indonesia not only strengthens the work safety culture, but also contributes to the achievement of the vision of Advanced Indonesia through safe company operations.
