PTFI Provides Aid for Flood Survivors in Sumatra

Pidie Jaya, January 15, 2026 - PT Freeport Indonesia provided humanitarian aid to flood survivors in Sumatera amounting to IDR 2.7 billion through the organizations Human Initiative (HI) and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Central.

"On behalf of the company, all employees, and the extended PTFI family, we express our deepest condolences. At Freeport Indonesia, many PTFI employees come from Aceh, North Sumatera, and West Sumatera. This humanitarian aid reflects our concern and care for our brothers and sisters in Aceh and Sumatera," said the Chairperson of the North Sumatera Employees/Community Association at PTFI, Posma Matondang, while symbolically handing over PTFI assistance to representatives of survivors in Meunasah Balek Village, Meureudu District, Pidie Jaya, Aceh, on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

The aid was also given by the Chairman of the Aceh Employees/Community Association, Edy Mirza, and the Vice President of Resources Mobilization and Impact at Human Initiative, Romi Ardiansyah. PTFI's aid is a combination of company contributions and employee donations through the PTFI employee association/community.

PTFI's aid was distributed through two institutions, namely through Human Initiative amounting to IDR 2,258,475,422 and through PMI amounting to IDR 500 million. Human Initiative distributed PTFI's aid to areas in North Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, Central Tapanuli, and Agam (East Malakak) for the Recovery Phase (post-disaster). The aid was provided in the form of cleaning equipment, bedding sets, provisioning of excavators to clear mud from access roads, construction of bore wells, clean water facilities, and Temporary Housing (Huntara) for residents.

"We hope this humanitarian aid can ease the burden of residents and help the community during this recovery phase," said Posma.
The aid was directly distributed to 615 heads of households at the main evacuation post in Meunasah Balek village, Pidie. "The distribution of bedding kits and community working tools is an effort to carry out post-emergency activities towards recovery transition; in addition, the cleaning of public facilities and roads is continuously being undertaken," said VP of Resources Mobilization and Impact at Human Initiative, Romi Ardiansyah.

Extreme weather conditions from November 25 to 30, 2025, caused flash floods and landslides in three provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. According to BNPB data, as of January 27, 2026, the death toll reached 1,201, with 142 people missing and 113,900 still displaced. Total house damages reached 175,050, affecting 53 regencies/cities.


Aid delivery by PT Freeport and Paguyuban had also been carried out in 2024 when helping the victims of the Mount Lewotobi eruption in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), with donations coming from Paguyuban Flobamora, BAMAG, YMM, and a double match by PT Freeport Indonesia.
