18 March 2025

In order to foster unity and deepen spirituality within the company’s operational area, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) employees celebrated the holy month of Ramadan through ‘Kampoeng Ramadan or Ramadan Village’ events held on Saturday and Sunday (15-16/03) in the Ridge Camp Tembagapura, Highland Area, and in the Kuala Kencana, Lowland Area.

George Banini, Director and Executive Vice President of Operations at PTFI, praised the interfaith diversity and collaboration demonstrated during the ‘Ramadan Village: Ramadan Blessings, Ramadan Works’.

“I deeply admire the sincerity and dedication of the Muslim community in practicing fasting. The collaboration between the Muslim Community and the Inter-Church Consultative Body serves as a reflection to all of us that we can worship with sincerity while ensuring the safety of our operations,” George said.

Carl Tauran, Executive Vice President Site Operations/Technical Mine Manager of PTFI also expressed his appreciation and support to all employees for their commitment to maintaining safe and secure operations throughout Ramadan.

“Fasting during this holy month is an obligation for Muslims, but it is should not be an obstacle for any of us. I really appreciate our Muslim colleagues who are able to perform their work safely, ensuring that our productivity remains maintained,” Carl said.

PTFI through the Ramadan and Qurban Program Organizing Committee (P3RQ) encourages all employees and communities in its operational areas to enhance their worship, foster a sense of unity and promote social responsibility and positive impact on the surrounding environment.

The Ramadan Village, held in the courtyard of the Baiturrahman Ridge Camp Mosque and the Baiturrahim Kuala Kencana Mosque, was attended by PTFI management. Their presence enhanced the lively atmosphere, demonstrating strong support for activities that not only reinforce religious values but also foster a spirit of unity within the company.

In the Highlands, Kampung Ramadan was filled with a variety of activities and performances including a screening of the movie Nussa (kids only), a Marawis performance by Asyiqol Musthofa, stand-up comedy, the release of Alan & Friends’ jingle, and concluded with a performance by PTFI Management.

Immadiately after the PTFI management’s performance, the Maghrib call to prayer rang out, marking the time to break the fast. Hundreds of employees gathered together to enjoy the iftar meals that had been prepared, bringing the Ramadan Village event to a close with a sense of gratitude and unity.

Ramadan Blessing in Banti: “Sharing Blessings in the Month of Ramadan”

In addition to the 'Kampeong Ramadhan' activity, the P3RQ Committee together with PTFI's Community Liaison Officer organized a social service activity (baksos) for the people of nearby villages around PTFI's operational area, located at Banti II Village Field, Tembagapura District, Wednesday (19/03).

This activity was warmly welcomed by the local community, ranging from children to the elderly. Not only distributing special gifts to children, this series of activities was also filled with fun games, as well as health education delivered by Health Workers from representatives of the Mimika Regency Health Office in the form of proper hand washing practices and understanding of hygiene management.

Aji Yudistia, chief executive of the social service, expressed his appreciation to the parties involved in the success of this social service activity, especially PTFI's Community Liaison Officer and representatives of the Mimika Regency Health Office for their solid support and cooperation during the implementation of the activity. This social service activity not only provides direct benefits to the community, but also serves as a momentum to strengthen the sense of togetherness, solidarity, and tolerance among religious communities.

“The month of Ramadan is a reminder for all of us to share and spread benefits. What we do today hopefully brings blessings, not only for the people of Banti II, but also for those of us who are given the opportunity to share,” he said.

The spirit of diversity was also reflected in this activity, in the midst of the Muslim community, Pastor Kristian Jangkup, chairman of the Tembagapura Kingmi Church Klasis was present and expressed his enthusiasm.

“This activity teaches us that religious differences are not a barrier to caring for each other and showing humanity. Sharing is not only the obligation of one religion or a particular group but our shared responsibility as human beings,” he said.
