Signing of the MoU for Operational Assistance for Clean Water Facilities

Responding to the need for clean water in Mimika Regency, PT Freeport Indonesia, through the General Constructions Special Projects department, built a Water Treatment Plant in the Kuala Kencana check point area, Mimika Regency, Central Papua. Following several trials and maintenance, a special ceremony was held in October to handover the facility to the Mimika Regency Regional Government. The project is part of a joint effort to provide clean water to Timika and surroundings areas.
The operation of the facility also will be handed over to the government’s PUPR Service. During the transition, PTFI will provide operational and technical assistance for 12 months, or until the PUPR Service is ready and able to fully operate the facility. During the mentoring process, knowledge will be transferred on how to manage, operate and maintain the plant.
PTFI and the Mimika Regency Government signed a Cooperation Agreement on Friday, December at the Rimba Papua Hotel, Timika. The signing of the PKS from the Mimika Regency Regional Government was represented by the Head of Human Settlements, PUPR Service, Suyani, while PTFI was represented by the Director and EVP of Social Responsibility and Community Development, Claus Wamafma.
The types of assistance in the technical sector include maintenance, facility operation, preparation of operational and administrative standard operating procedures (SOP), periodic water quality testing, security of facility work areas, housekeeping, implementation of occupational health and safety (K3), regular evaluation on a regular basis., electricity consumption for 12 months, will be borne by PTFI.
