Tembagapura Football Field Modern Revitalization in a historic moment
The excitement of the 80th Indonesian Independence Day is still felt alive in Tembagapura. On August 17, 2025, PT Freeport Indonesia held a Flag Ceremony commemorating the 80th Indonesian Independence Day and a colossal dance performance simultaneously with 500 participants from six PTFI operational areas. Showcasing the diversity of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, the Tembagapura Football Field witnessed the diversity, unity, and talent of PTFI employees and the community. Approximately 2,800 participants attended the ceremony from Tembagapura, Kuala Kencana, Nabire, Gresik, and Jakarta.
In Tembagapura, the Flag Ceremony was attended by approximately 1,200 participants, who looked stunning in a mix of division uniforms and traditional attire from various regions of Indonesia. However, the beautiful colors radiated not only from the costumes worn by the participants. The greener grass on the field also added a touch of freshness to the celebration. Yesterday's Flag Ceremony marked the first use of the Tembagapura Football Field following the installation of new synthetic turf. This sweet touch added to the celebration's aesthetic, like a small gift to commemorate the Republic of Indonesia's 15th anniversary.
To ensure the Tembagapura Football Field was completed on time and highest quality, PTFI's Facilities & Town Management worked with dedication and commitment. It took approximately nine months, from ordering to delivery to installation. "The procurement process for this grass was quite complex. The logistical challenges involved: the synthetic grass had to travel from Europe to Jakarta and then continued to Tembagapura. The most important thing is that this grass meets FIFA standards," explained Sugiri, Manager, Facilities Town and Management.
After being used for the 80th Indonesian Independence Day Flag Ceremony, the field will be ready for use again for sports activities. It is hoped that this renovation will encourage a healthy lifestyle and support employees' athletic talents. Sugiri added, "Our hope is that we can all properly maintain this vital facility in Tembagapura. This will ensure its longevity and greater benefits for the community, employees, children, and visiting guests."
