Together in the Light: PT Freeport Indonesia's Acts of Compassion for Others
Christmas is always a meaningful moment. It's not just a celebration, but a call to share loves and hopes. This spirit inspired PT Freeport Indonesia to choose the theme "Together in the Light" for this year's Christmas celebrations.
Kicking off a series of Christmas celebrations in the highlands, the Christmas Committee conducted a diaconal act of love in Waa Banti Village on November 22, 2025. Representatives of PTFI, Church denominations, communities, and representatives of Waa Banti Hospital attended the event. This activity demonstrated the company and employees' commitment to continuously sharing and being present with the community.
The diaconal event was carried out with thorough preparation and the spirit of togetherness. A friendly and joyful atmosphere was created as employees interacted with the communities. Behind each gift, there was a message that love has no limits.
The symbolic distribution of the food packages was represented by Reverend Kristian Jangkup, Head of the Kingmi Waa Banti Church Classis. In his remarks, Reverend Kristian expressed his gratitude for the concern of PTFI and all employees who participated in this act of love.
PTFI Management Representative, Eko Purnomo, who also attended the event, expressed his deep appreciation to all employees and the community for their solidarity and support. He emphasized that, despite the challenges currently faced by the company, this successful act of charity is a tangible demonstration of the unwavering spirit of togetherness and caring. He also extended his Christmas and New Year greetings to those celebrating.
Kresna Suryandaru, Head of the PTFI Christmas Committee in the Highlands, stated that this year's diakonia was unique. This year's PTFI Christmas diakonia activities in the Highlands were funded entirely by funds raised by PTFI employees and the community in the Highlands. This demonstrates the caring spirit of the PTFI community from various religious and ethnic backgrounds. Fundraising was conducted through the purchase of donation coupons to be distributed to the community, ultimately raising Rp 120 million.
The funds collected were then used to produce 655 food packages containing staples such as rice, sweetened condensed milk, sugar, cooking oil, and biscuits. Clothing was also provided to children and pastors. This donation was distributed evenly across five villages in the Waa Banti area, including churches in each area. The committee will also donate a portion of the proceeds to help victims of the flash floods in Sumatra, through the PTFI BAMAG.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the PTFI community in the highlands who have shown concern and love for our brothers and sisters around us. I also want to thank the Tembagapura women's community for their extraordinary support. I hope this kind of compassion can continue in the future. It is a tangible demonstration of our love for one another. Together in the Light," added Kresna Suryandaru. (Contibutor: Cherry Wospakrik)
