20 PTFI Engineers Awarded Professional Engineer Title Amid the Pandemic

Despite the pandemic changing so much in their professional and personal lives, 20 PT Freeport Indonesia senior engineers recently graduated from the colloquium program of the Universitas Muslim Indonesia’s Professional Engineer Program after completing the colloquium mentoring with university lecturers virtually.
Officially launched in April 2020, the professional engineer certification program was part of the partnership between PTFI and UMI under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2020. PTFI and UMI agreed to cooperate in improving the quality of engineering science through the use of new mining virtual reality technology, human resources development, guest lecturing and student internships.
The colloquium program is an engineering experience sharing program designed for participants to present their best engineering work to academics and fellow engineers. Their shared project will then be published in academic journals. This program allows engineers who had been directly involved in the industry to document their work academically to encourage scientific advances. The program enables participants to join academic seminars led by different lecturers with different topics at each meeting.
"The program provides a great opportunity for PTFI engineers to share on-the-job experiences and gain recognition for our accomplished projects," said Norvita Irjadani Douw, Chief Engineer-DMLZ Scheduling.
It was a special moment for Douw when she represented her fellow cohorts to receive the professional engineer certificate on October 30, 2020. What made it even better, was Douw was named the best graduate with cum laude predicate.
All the adjustments required by the pandemic made completing the program even more difficult than it would have been normally.
Some of adjustments made by lecturers and engineers during the program included sharing and discussing presentation materials virtually, submitting the abstract for the project online, and conducting remote examinations. Although many changes made because of the pandemic were new, the program allowed participants considerable flexibility. As participants still were actively working, the program’s virtual nature enabled them to save time and effort. For example, they didn’t need to travel to Makassar in South Sulawesi to present their work. They could do it over online platforms such as Zoom and other mediums.
Make Leadership Proud
The company welcomes the cooperation of the program with UMI. Besides appreciating efforts in supporting the advancement of technical science, PTFI management is proud of the results achieved by some of its best engineers.

Clementino Lamury, Director-Executive Vice President, Human Resources, praised the engineers’ hard work and advanced qualification. He encouraged them to carry out their best engineering work to maintain productivity while still keep prioritizing work safety.
