"This is an excellent achievement where all employees work with high commitment and prioritize workplace safety culture. The principles of Safe Operation Startup and Safe Production have been truly well implemented," said PTFI Deputy Mine Technical Head Sony Suryanto in Gresik, Friday.

He explained that to achieve 69 million safe work hours, PTFI encourages every employee to implement five main steps at work. First, routine safety communication to employees. Second, building a culture of mutual reminder and preventive actions to reduce accident risks. Third, ensuring compliance with safety policies with sanctions for violators.

Fourth, maintaining the condition of work equipment and safety gear. Fifth, conducting regular OHS audits and identifying areas that need improvement.

Deputy Head of Mining Engineering PTFI Sony Suryanto said that occupational safety and health are core values and the company's top priority in every operational line. K3 culture is the main foundation for increasing productivity which in turn supports business sustainability.

"Besides achieving 69 million safe work hours, PTFI Smelter has also successfully implemented CSMS (Contractor Safety Management System) in recruiting 420 companies and 2,331 partner employees. This demonstrates our seriousness in encouraging all partner companies and their employees to implement high occupational health and safety standards," said Sony.

CSMS is a partner safety management system that contains stages ranging from risk assessment and work scope, pre-qualification, tender implementation, pre-work activities, contract work implementation, to evaluation. All these stages are based on the principle that standards applied at PTFI become minimum requirements that must also be met by its partners.

"We also develop and implement Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) matrices to ensure optimal protection for all workers. Potential hazards and risks in each area and process at the Smelter vary, so this matrix provides guidance on appropriate types of PPE that must be worn in each area," said Sony.

The goal, Sony continued, is to ensure that PPE owned by each employee is appropriate for the hazards and risks of their workplace, is worn correctly, and is well maintained.

Head of East Java Province Manpower and Transmigration Office Sigit Priyanto appreciated PTFI Smelter's efforts in implementing OHS standards. "The highest appreciation should be given to PTFI for carrying out K3 Month commemoration activities. This proves PTFI's seriousness in implementing OHS in the workplace," he said during the opening of National Occupational Health and Safety Month (BK3N) 2025 at PTFI Smelter, Friday (01/14).

The BK3N commemoration at PTFI Smelter runs from January 14 to February 13, 2025. Various activities are held aimed at strengthening OHS culture and deepening SMK3 implementation at PTFI Smelter. These include emergency response simulations by the Emergency Response Team, Zero Tolerance Rule Campaign, PPE Usage Campaign in Chemical Handling, Blood Donation, OHS Quiz Competition, 5K Fun Run, and Mining Management System Implementation Seminar along with PTFI BK3N closing ceremony.
