Jakarta, March 20, 2025 – PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) held an iftar (breaking fast) event with 1,700 orphans and underprivileged children in Jakarta and Gresik, which was also virtually attended by all employees in the operational areas of Tembagapura and Kuala Kencana, Mimika Regency, Central Papua.
"This iftar event is a time for PTFI and beneficiaries to share happiness and gratitude. This aligns with the company's values, especially the values of Respect and Commitment to communities in PTFI's environment, both in Kuala Kencana, Tembagapura, Jakarta, and Gresik," said PTFI President Director Tony Wenas during his remarks at Balai Soedirman on Tuesday (3/18).
The 1,700 orphans and underprivileged children were divided into two groups: 1,500 orphans and underprivileged children from 30 foundations across Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) and 200 orphans and underprivileged children in Gresik. The Papuan Muslim Community in Jakarta also attended this event and inspired attendees when reciting verses from the Quran. The activity also included the distribution of donations and gifts contributed by PTFI employees from all four working areas.
"PTFI's existence must always provide benefits for all stakeholders, communities, the nation, and the state," said Tony.
A representative from PTFI's Al Ikhlas Islamic Study Group (MTAI), Harry Pancasakti, in his report stated that this event was initiated and carried out entirely by PTFI employees. PTFI employees in Jakarta and Gresik collaborated with the Muslim Community Foundation (YMM) in Tembagapura, along with donors, who worked together to prepare this activity.
"This is proof that PTFI employees can collaborate and synergize, not only in work but also in social activities," he said.
In Jakarta, the event featured storytelling by Kak Ria Enes and the Puppet Suzan about Asmaul Husna (the 99 names of Allah), games, and competitions that children participated in enthusiastically. In Gresik, 200 orphans from foundations in the smelter area, namely Manyar and Bungah Districts, also eagerly participated in various activities. Meanwhile, in Timika, employees at the Kuala Kencana and Tembagapura Offices also held religious talks and iftar events.
