We Are Freeport Indonesia

01 October 2025 Papua

What is the most valuable to Freeport Indonesia at this time?

It turns out, the answer goes beyond the long history of discovering and managing world-class mineral reserves in Grasberg since 1960. It is not limited to its ongoing efforts and commitment to environmental sustainability during and after mining operations. Also, more than a significant economic contribution to the country and surrounding communities.

For Freeport Indonesia, the well-being of our employees and their families is our foremost priority for the long-term sustainability of our company. People are our most important asset.

Like a family, Freeport Indonesia is a unified whole, where each individual grows together, supports each other and contributes to achieving common goals. Every Freeport Indonesia employee is treated with care, listened to and supported, especially in difficult times like these.

Incident at the Grasberg Block Cave

On Monday, September 8, at approximately 10:00 p.m, a large-scale wet material flow incident occurred at the Grasberg Block Cave Underground Mine. Seven employees were trapped in the affected area.

Immediately following the incident, our entire focus shifted to the rescue of seven employees in an area that was difficult to reach due to the large amount of wet material blocking access. Mining operations were temporarily suspended, and all available resources were diverted to this rescue effort. Excavation and drilling efforts are continuously carried out using all available resources and technology 24 hours a day.

On Monday, September 15, 2025, Richard Adkerson, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Freeport McMoRan, and Kathleen Quirk, President and Chief Executive Officer of Freeport McMoRan, observed the rescue efforts that were being carried out day and night. Accompanied by PT Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas, who had previously been at the Jobsite with the team in the field, they expressed their support for the rescue efforts.

Richard C. Adkerson, Chairman of the Board, and Kathleen Quirk, President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “The Freeport family is filled with sadness, grief and concern for our missing team members and their families. We are continuing to do everything possible to locate these individuals and continue to pray for their wellbeing. We appreciate the valiant efforts of our emergency response team to bring our workers to safety,”

In his message to all employees, PTFI President Director, Tony Wenas, said that from Tembagapura at that time, “I, along with the entire Board of Directors, am in Tembagapura, standing alongside the teams who are working tirelessly day and night. We also feel the strength of solidarity from the entire Freeport Indonesia family, who are helping one another without rest. We all share one goal: to save our colleagues and get through this trial together,”

On Saturday, 20 September 2025, at around 8.45 WIT, the Underground Mine Rescue (UGMR) Team evacuated 2 (two) of our colleagues who lost their lives in the area affected by the wet material slide at the Grasberg Block Cave.

The news of losing 2 (two) of our colleagues is truly heartbreaking for all of us. We are grieving together with their families and relatives. This loss is deeply felt by the entire Freeport family.

As of now, it has been more than three weeks since the incident at the Grasberg Block Cave Underground Mine, rescue efforts are continuing day and night. We realize that this rescue mission is full of challenges, not easy, and deeply concerning, with chances becoming increasingly limited. Even so, we will not give up. We will continue to do everything possible to save our five colleagues.

No one is left behind, because the company stands together as one family. Because in our family, Freeport Indonesia, every voice matters, every person counts, and every challenge is faced together.
