YPMAK Scholarship Recipient Becomes Doctor of Law

Education has a major impact on the influence of future developments. Not only for oneself, it can even affect the nation and the country. Dr. Methodius Kossay, SH, M.Hum, a young Papuan leader who received a scholarship from the Amungme and Komoro Community Development Foundation (YPMAK), recently confirmed his achievement of obtaining a Doctor of Law degree at Trisakti University, Jakarta.

Metho, his nickname, a young Wamena, born May 16, 1991 who also served as Liaison Chair for the Judicial Commission (KY) of the Republic of Indonesia for Papua Region, graduated in the Graduation Ceremony for Doctoral, Masters, Undergraduate, Specialist, Profession, and Diploma of Trisakti University, Odd Semester Academic Year 2022-2023 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), on Saturday (29/4) in Jakarta.

“I am of course grateful to God because of His grace and strength I was able to worked hard to finish my dissertation on time. I also thank my beloved wife and two children. They are my encouragement to achieved a Grade Point Average or GPA of 3.94," said Methodius.

Metho presented his dissertation entitled 'Legal Politics Against Central Government Policies in Resolving the Papua Conflict in Indonesia' at the Open Session for the Promotion of Doctor of Laws at Trisakti University, Mega Kuningan campus, South Jakarta, Saturday (12/11/2022).

Mettho also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the leadership and extended family of the Amungme and Komoro Community Development Foundation (YPMAK) as the manager of the Partnership Fund from PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI). Special appreciation is conveyed to the Director of YPMAK Vebian Magal and his staff who have provided the opportunity to become scholarship recipients.

“Through a scholarship from this foundation (YPMAK), I was able to finish my studies and complete my dissertation on time," he explained.

The father of two is known to be humble and has a high social sense. He is also a motivator and the initiator of the Papua Generation Hope Foundation (HGP) which has a vision of creating a hopeful, optimistic, resilient and impactful young generation. This foundation also has a mission to build and strengthen the young generation of Papua in building character and morals through the love of Christ Jesus. Building and instilling community-based values of God's truth, organizing training and educational assistance that are integral in developing the complete Papuan people.

Metho hopes that his achievements can provide new enthusiasm for him and for the young generation of Papua and can contribute to the development of Papua.

Methodius Kossay was born in Wamena, Jayawijaya, had received elementary education (SD) in Wamena then moved to SD Negeri 3 Sambiroto Tambalang, Semarang, Central Java. In 2005-2010 Methodius then entered Caritas Nandan Middle School and Santo Mikael Warek High School, Mlati, Sleman Yogyakarta. After graduating from high school, he entered the Faculty of Law at Atma Jaya University in Yogyakarta and earned a law degree. He also earned a Master of Laws degree (S-2) from Atma Jaya University, Yogyakarta. In 2019, he studied for his PhD in Law at Trisakti University, Jakarta.
