Thanks to PT Freeport Indonesia and its partners, namely the Timika Diocese Maria Bintang Laut Cooperative, children in eight villages on the southern coast of Mimika Regency once again received a special visit and gifts from Santa Claus on December 6-18.



A total of 2,500 gifts in the form of food packages and soft drinks were distributed to the children, who enthusiastically gathered to receive them. The activitiy took place in the villages of Nawaripi, Koperapoka, Ayuka, Tipuka and Nayaro on December 6-8 and in the villages of Otakwa, Omawita, Fanamo and Far East Mimika District on December 15-18, with special attenance by the Head of East Mimika District Far.

 

This activity was launched in 2018 with the goal to strengthen interaction with groups of children and foster a sense of togetherness and joy. Before the Christmas gifts were distributed, the children were invited to sing Sunday school songs and Christmas songs.

 

Representing the company, Community Development Manager, Yohanes Bewahan, explained Santa’s visits were part of various Christmas activities and other assistance provided  to the villages. “PTFI would like to thank the Village, District Government and other program partners, especially the Diocese of Timika, for their support and cooperation in realizing this program as well other community economic development programs " he said.

 

In addition, the Head of Mimika Far East District, Julius Katagame, S.Sos, expressed his thanks to the company for the various activities and programs carried out on the coast, especially in the Mimika Far East District area. "This Christmas visit is a year-end closing program that is always awaited by children in the village, thanks to PTFI, which not only focuses on programs for community empowerment, but also touches groups of children during this holiday moment," he said.
