Freeport Indonesia Distributes Food Aid to 13,000 Residents Affected by Bekasi Floods

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) distributed basic food aid worth a total of IDR 300 million to 13 thousand residents of Jatiasih District, Bekasi City who were affected by the flood in early March.
The aid was handed over on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 09.00 WIB. Vice President of Tailing & Utilization PTFI Ucok Simanungkalit symbolically handed over the basic food aid to the Secretary of Jatiasih District, Irob Ruhyadi and 10 RT Heads in Jatiasih District, witnessed by the Social Counselor of the Directorate of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA) of the Ministry of Social Affairs Andri Firmansyah.
"This aid is a form of PTFI's care for the flood disaster that hit the residents of Jatiasih, Bekasi. We hope that this aid will be useful and reduce the difficulties experienced by residents, especially ahead of Eid al-Fitr," said Ucok Simanungkalit.
Jatiasih District’s Secretary Irob Ruhyadi said the the Town Leaders have recorded their residents affected by the flood. They will collect aid at the sub-district office according to the existing data and the leaders will distribute basic food packages directly to residents and provide.
"We are grateful and thankful for the assistance from Freeport Indonesia. With direct distribution to residents like this, it can accelerate the distribution of assistance to residents affected by the flood. This assistance is at the right time. Because even after the emergency response to the flood disaster ended on March 18, they still received food assistance. Especially approaching Eid al-Fitr, this is a blessing for us," he said.
Social Counselor of the Ministry of Social Affairs Andri Firmansyah said that this basic food package assistance was greatly needed by survivors during the recovery period after the disaster.
"With this assistance, it is hoped that residents can immediately recover and return to normal life," said Andi.
It is known that heavy rain with high intensity occurred in Bekasi City, Bekasi Regency, and Bogor on Monday night, March 3, 2025. The Bekasi City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded seven sub-districts affected by the flood, with Jatiasih Sub-district reported as the worst affected area. The water level reached three meters, submerging 140 houses and causing more than 10,000 families to become victims.
