Timika – In celebration of World Environment Day 2025, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) partnered with the Mimika Regency Government to organize a three-days campaign centered around the global theme "Beat Plastic Pollution" and subtheme "Ending Plastic Pollution". The program emphasized action against plastic waste and highlighted the importance of collaboration between communities and policymakers.


In this occasion, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) collaborated with the Mimika Regency Government in organizing a series of activities held at Eme Neme Yauware, Timika from June 5 as the World Environment Day commemoration ceremony and continued from June 12-14 as the peak of the event. This event was attended by various parties ranging from external and internal.


"This is one example of the strong synergy between the private sector, government, and other parties to collaborate with each other in addressing environmental issues," said Gesang Setyadi, PTFI VP Environmental.


This series of events began with Environmental Campaign activities through Radio Podcasts, Waste Segregation Socialization, Energy Efficiency Talkshow, Greening Activities in the Highlands and Lowlands, and River Clean-Up Action in Timika. Followed by Environmental Competitions namely Fun Run, SpoGomi (Waste Picking Competition), Eco School Competition, Segregation Waste Bin Design, and Clean Village Competition in Timika.

At the opening, Emanuel Kemong, Vice Regent of Mimika Regency, expressed his appreciation to PTFI in carrying out a series of Environment Day activities "On behalf of the Regent, I appreciate the activities that PTFI has carried out with the Government. This activity shows that we can collaborate in protecting the environment. The involvement of all of us aims to echo the spirit of protecting the environment to all levels of society," he said.

The series of events concluded with a lively Environmental Fair, featuring booths from PTFI divisions, contractors, & government agencies. Each booth provided educational content, interactive games, quizzes, and prizes, designed to engage participants of all ages - from school children to employees, and the community. In addition, the Alam Lestari and Duta Lestari elections were held, complemented by entertainment from local and national artists.

"This exhibition really broaden our knowledge, and to notice the little things we can do daily to protect our planet, " said Michelle, as a local community member in attendance.

"Let's make this exhibition the starting point of a broader movement," said Evert Hindom, Assistant III Setda Mimika. The collaborative spirit built during this exhibition is proof that the whole community can work together in facing challenges, especially the growing waste crisis. "Let's change our lifestyle, encourage policies that favor the environment, and continue to educate the public so that this earth remains habitable for the next generations" he continued.

In closing the whole series of activities, Meitty Poei, Chairperson of World Environment Day 2025 said that these activities are educational activities to all levels of society with the hope that "We can work together in ending plastic waste, so that the environment can be enjoyed by our children and grandchildren".
