Human Capital Investment through Report Writing Skills

12 June 2025

As part of its ongoing commitment to Papuan employee development, PT Freeport Indonesia’s (PTFI) Papuan Affairs Division (PAD) – working in collaboration with the Learning & Organizational Development (LOD) department – is once again rolling out its targeted Report Writing Training for Papuan employees. Delivered in small, focused batches of 20 participants per session, this program aims to strengthen the writing and communication skills needed to support day-to-day operational excellence across the company.

This initiative is a continuation of the Personal Development Plan (PDP) for 2024-2025, that is designed to be practical, hands-on, and relevant to the unique communication challenges faced in the field, especially for employees tasked with reporting, coordination, and project documentation.

Strengthening Skills, Building Confidence

Effective report writing is essential to clear communication, accurate project tracking, and informed decision-making. PAD department recognized that strengthening this skillset among local Papuan employees would have a lasting impact – not only in terms of workplace performance but also in empowering employees to grow into more advanced roles within the organization.

“Report writing is more than just putting words of paper – it’s about being able to communicate clearly, accurately, and purposefully,” said Soleman Faluk, Vice President PAD. “By equipping our Papuan colleagues with this skill, we are supporting their professional growth while also ensuring that our operational reporting meets the high standards PTFI is known for.”

A Collaborative Effort

LOD Department has played a key role in shaping and delivering the program, from developing the curriculum to facilitating each session. Each training covers the basics of structure, tone, data presentation, and corporate reporting standards – culminating in practical writing exercises tied directly to the participants’ real-workplace responsibilities.

Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. Many reported a greater sense of confidence and clarity when preparing reports required in their daily work.

Ivonne Runtuboy an Environmental Division employee shared “This training gave me new insights. It’s useful to apply in creating daily reports that are clearer and more structured.”

A Step Toward Inclusive Professional Development

With these sessions planned in 2025, the program will have reached over 50 Papuan employees by the end of this year. It is part of a broader push by PTFI to ensure that professional development opportunities are inclusive.

This initiative also aligns with PTFI’s long-term commitment to Papuan workforce empowerment – ensuring that Papuan employees are not only part of the team and daily operations, but are also equipped with the skills that support them to lead.

Looking Ahead

As the 2025 rollout continues, the PAD division has planned an evaluation session to review the progress and performance of all participants. This evaluation will serve as a benchmark for refining future trainings – ensuring that content remains relevant, practical, and aligned with participants’ rea workplace needs.

“For our report writing training participants – especially our Papuan employees – it’s important to not only perform well in their roles but also be able to communicate that performance effectively. Being able to report progress and follow up on challenges, whether to supervisors or clients, is a key part of professional accountability,” said Arthur Dimara, the instructor of this training.

Insights from this evaluation will hopefully help shape future sessions and may also guide the development of additional modules or programs focused on communication and leadership in the future. (im)
