21 May 2024
Papuan Affairs Division (PAD) PT. Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) held an informative program at the assembly hall of SMK Negeri 1 Kuala Kencana, Mimika, Central Papua, Friday (5/17). This activity is made possible through the collaboration between PAD, with several contractor companies in PTFI's work environment including PT. Sandvic, PT. Trakindo, PT. Petrosea, Nemangkawi Mining Institute (NMI), and International SOS. While internally supported by the Human Resources Department (HR), and Mining Safety Department (MSD) PTFI.
The program known as 'PAD Go to School Program 2024' is intended for vocational / high school students in Mimika Regency, to introduce the working environment at PTFI and its contractors. Additionally, it provides an understanding of the majors that have been in demand over the past five years. Regarding technological advancements, the HR team also explained that job applications are no longer submitted manually as in the past, but through digital or online systems.
According to Vice President of PAD, Soleman Faluk, in his written statement explained that this activity serves as an opportunity for the company to find potential workers as needed. He stated that this job information program is also a form of service by the company to open up the widest possible employment opportunities for indigenous Papuans within the PTFI work environment and its contractors.
Soleman explained that PTFI continually facilitates and creates a conducive business climate with a focus on competent indigenous Papuans in their respective fields. "The mining industry has still been able to absorb a significant number of workers and determine economic growth in the area surrounding the company. On the other hand, improving the quality of education is also important to meet the needs for skilled workers as required by the industry," he explained.
From this activity, he hopes that the dissemination of job information can open doors for cross-sector cooperation to address employment issues. This is a golden opportunity for job seekers to find their careers and for a better future.
Representing the school, the Vice Principal of SMK Negeri 1 Kuala Kencana, Marten Patoh highly appreciated this activity as it opens up more opportunities for productive members of society and helps government efforts to reduce the open unemployment rate in Mimika Regency. "This is very good for opening opportunities. At least the students graduating from this vocational school will have many opportunities, depending on whether they want to take them. In the future, I hope this program can be sustainable so that there will be no new unemployment in Mimika," he emphasized.
This half-day activity included explanations from contractor companies about the requirements and stages of submitting job applications, hoping this could help high school/ vocational school/diploma/ undergraduate graduates to quickly find employment. (Hendrikus)
