voice-over competitionMimika, April 24 & 29, 2025. The future sounded bright and hopeful these few days as dozens of primary and middle school students studying at Yayasan Pendidikan Jayawijaya (YPJ) Elementary and Junior High School gathered for the first-ever voice-ever competition themed our planet, our power and subtheme “Healthy Earth, Brighter Tomorrow” (“Bumi Sehat, Masa Depan Sehat”).

Organized as part of the PT Freeport Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to environmental awareness, the event challenged young participants not only to perform but also to write their own scripts and deliver original voice-over presentations – all centered around the importance of protecting the earth for future generations.

Held in both Tembagapura and Kuala Kencana, the competition received an enthusiastic response from students and educators.

The event in Tembagapura was especially heartwarming, with elementary and junior high school students bringing forward a rich array of inspiring stories. One group of elementary school students portrayed their concern for the environment through an imaginative narrative filled with emotion and hope. With solid teamwork and expressive delivery, they captured the hearts of both the judges and the audience – proving that even the youngest voices can carry powerful messages about environmental protection.

Meanwhile, a junior high school group delivered a compelling performance that invited the audience to reflect on the impact of human activities on nature. Their strong storyline and passionate delivery emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in preserving the earth for future generations.

In Kuala Kencana, the creativity soared as students brought their scripts to life through role-playing and character-driven voice-overs. From imaginative dialogues between rivers and trees to oceanic animals seeking safety from waste, the performances were both entertaining and thought-provoking. Students not only narrated but embodied their characters – creating an engaging and interactive experience that impressed both the audience and the judges.

“This is the first time we’ve hosted a competition like this, and the students exceeded all expectations with their creativity and passion,” said Kristina Pek,voice-over competition Superintendent Awareness and Education, Environmental Central System & Project Department. “We wanted to give the children a platform not just to speak, but to think critically and creatively about the future of their environment.”

Participants ranged from confident storytellers to quiet voices whose heartfelt words resonated with the audience. Entries were judged on creativity, clarity, environmental messaging, and emotional impact.

The voice-over competition is part of a broader series of educational initiatives launched by the Environmental department of PTFI to promote environmental responsibility, creativity, and leadership skills among the young generations.

As the last echoes of heartfelt voice-overs faded into the afternoon air, one thing was clear: the next generation is ready – and eager – to protect the earth, one word at a time. (imarischa & maryonover)

Winning entries will be announced at the schools and broadcasted over the company’s internal communication channel, amplifying the young voices’ call for a greener tomorrow.
