As part of PT Freeport Indonesia's (PTFI) commitment to prioritize regional potential, including involving a regional public company (Perumda) in meeting the various development and operational needs of the Manyar smelter, PTFI and Giri Tirta Regional Public Company (Perumda) Gresik Regency signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the sale and purchase of water in Gresik, East Java (24/2).
"We appreciate PTFI's support as the private sector in encouraging Gresik's economic development through partnerships and empowering regional companies," said Gresik Regent Fandi Akhmad Yani at the opening of the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony.
This collaboration will not only provide benefits in the form of water supply for the Manyar smelter operations, but will also have a positive impact on increasing regional economic growth through business support for regional companies," said PTFI President Director Tony Wenas at the signing of the memorandum of understanding.
In the memorandum of understanding discussing water supply cooperation for the operational activities of the Manyar smelter in the Gresik Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Perumda Giri Tirta will provide the Manyar smelter's water supply needs. To be able to channel the water supply, Perumda Giri Tirta is working with PT Berkah Kawasan Manyar Sejahtera (BKMS) to build a water pipeline to PTFI's smelter area in Manyar.
"We appreciate PTFI's commitment to embracing regional business players to meet the various development and operational needs of the Manyar smelter. This collaboration helps us develop the potential of PDAM Giri Tirta to meet the water needs of Gresik Regency," explained Main Director of Giri Tirta Kurnia Suryandi on the same occasion.
Previously, PTFI had also worked with various local businesses to meet the various needs of the Manyar smelter construction activities, including the needs for consumption, office supply, transportation, labor, and construction services. The construction progress of the Manyar smelter until the end of January 2023 has reached 54.5 percent of the planned 52.9 percent target.
